About Dr von Biel
Dr Tom von Biel trained in New Zealand and graduated in 1987. He first worked in the UK between 1989 – 1991, gaining extensive experience in surgery, emergency medicine and orthopaedics, he then returned to New Zealand where he qualified as a GP in 1994.
In 1998 he emigrated with his family back to the UK and started working as a GP where he worked at the Ball Tree surgery in Sompting and then the Orchard Surgery in Lancing before joining the Kingfisher Surgery in Lancing as a partner in 2004 – working as a full time GP until 2017. Here he developed a successful monthly joint injection and minor ops surgery clinic treating Kingfisher patients.
Dr von Biel became a GP trainer in 2008 and also continued to study, developing his interest in skin conditions and gaining a post graduate diploma in dermatology, (PGDipDerm) in 2013. He has worked in the Sussex Community Dermatology Service (SCDS) since then, as well as continuing his work as a GP. He was also recently awarded 'GP with extended role' status in dermatology, awarded by the Royal College of GPs (RCGP)
Dr von Biel has also trained in acupuncture, developing his skills under the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) where he is working towards his Diploma in Western Medical Acupuncture. He is passionate about exploring methods of treatments that avoid over medication which can cause side effects and have adverse effects.
In addition, Dr von Biel has also worked as clinical lead in Musculoskeletal Services (MSK) medicine and is also an examiner for Brighton Medical School, for medical students.
His outside interests include squash, skiing, snowboarding, and walking in the beautiful South Downs.
